Text Box: It may be old news that America's children are becoming obese, but it's still bad news! Research shows that excess weight in childhood can set kids up for serious health problems as adults, such as being more prone to heart disease, diabetes, and cancer.
But why is obesity on the rise? Childhood obesity researchers at Stanford University say they've identified the top eight reasons. See if any of these ring a bell:
1. Easy availability of food, especially high-calorie snacks
2. Unhealthy attitude toward eating and exercise passed on to children by their parents
3. An increase in children's fast-food consumption
Text Box: 4. Using food as a reward or to change behavior
5. Lack of exercise
6. Excessive television watching and snacking
7. Not understanding how to eat healthy
8. Heredity (size of parents and other family members)

Remember, understanding the causes of a problem sets you on the road to solving it! It's never too late to start instilling healthy habits!
